Through training, service and resources we provide a safe and effective Christian context in which people can experience personal and community wholeness, through exploring the essential elements of Healing.
Established in 1983 by Bishop Morris Maddocks, Acorn has been at the forefront of providing people, regardless of their circumstances, background or life choices, with the opportunity to experience the 'shalom' - a life-encompassing peace - that is at the heart of the Christian message. Shalom impacts every area of a person's life - relationships, physical and spiritual wellbeing and emotional wholeness.
Acorn remains engaged in, and committed to being a transformative agent in today's multifaceted society. Our training events are divided into three Academies:
- Ministry Academy (events where guests can receive ministry for healing)
- Training Academy (training in Christian healing)
- Healing Academy (preparing you for Healing Hubs)

We have no overnight accommodation but run monthly weekend or mid-week residential healing retreats in various venues around the country and we have a team of around thirty. Now that we are seeing a lot more traumatised and fractured people we badly need more intercessors to stand with us.
Cardiff Christian Healing Ministry
Cardiff Christian Healing Ministry (CCHM) is based in Cardiff and serves Cardiff and the surrounding area. Our vision is to see the healing ministry available in all the churches in our area. We offer counselling by appointment, and a bi-monthly soaking prayer. We have developed our own Pastoral Therapy course, which is taught regularly and is having a big impact on the churches. The course is called 'Keys of the Kingdom'. The KK courses are becoming increasingly popular, and seem to be powering the original vision from nearly 20 years ago. It is brilliant to see people being trained to minister healing in a deep way to the many broken people in our midst.

Christian Healing Mission
The Christian Healing Mission works with churches and individuals of all denominations across the country, offering training and encouragement in the ministry of healing. CHM believes that it is when people experience God in a personal way - as Father, Son and Holy Spirit - that transformation and healing so often takes place.

Christian Prayer Ministries
Christian Prayer Ministries is one of two ministries in the UK based on the 'Circle of God's Love' and 'Four Areas of Brokenness' formulated by Anne White back in the 1960s. This ministry has been present in our country since then.
With a strong emphasis on Member accountability and participation, 200 members, divided into five active regions, carry out healing prayer to the whole person, either through individual ministry in homes or through church based courses.
Training for accreditation is long and thorough, involving participation in at least ten prayer ministry appointments (acting as lead minister in at least four) and attendance at two residential training courses.
With an increasing culture gap developing between our country's different generations, we are currently trying out new styles of courses, based less on an 'I speak, you listen' approach, and more on participation in group work and use of video clips and extracts from TV programmes.
Crowhurst Christian Healing Centre
At Crowhurst Christian Healing Centre (CCHC), we seek to grow the Kingdom of God through continuing Christ’s healing, preaching and teaching ministry. CCHC is a special place to experience the peace and love of God either as an in-house guest or day visitor. We offer a warm welcome with daily Christ-centred worship, comfortable accommodation, delicious food, an art room and beautiful grounds. Our ministry of hospitality provides a safe place for individual prayer, bringing people into the presence of our healing Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Our programme includes retreats, quiet days and teaching days. In 2020 we launched Howard's Well (Monday to Wednesday), a café open to all. People visiting Howard's Well have the option to join a 'Midday Encounter' service at 12 noon and receive prayer.

Essex Christian Healing Trust
Essex Christian Healing Trust is an ecumenical body that exists to support and encourage the Churches' Ministry of Healing throughout Essex and East London. ECHT holds an annual conference which includes teaching on aspects of the Christian healing ministry and supports local groups/forums. It supports new initiatives and individual Christians wanting to establish healing ministries where they are, and informs members about other healing resources available in Essex and national organisations' resources and events. It dialogues with health professionals on an interfaith multi ethnic basis to encourage whole person care, holds quiet days and attends relevant exhibitions.
The group was commissioned in 2011 and is multidisciplinary. Members include a hospital, hospice and prison chaplain, medical professionals, counsellors, the Director of Harnhill and other interested clergy. The Advisory Group and the Adviser are accountable to the Diocesan Bishop.
The group advises on the Christian Healing Ministry. It has produced guidelines for best practice (see the webpage). It organises training events and quiet days on the theme of Christian healing, and a biennial Diocesan Celebration of Healing and Wholeness day, with invited guest speakers.
In 2018, the group explored training material for parishes, benefices and ecumenical groups. The selected, and recommended, training is the Acorn Christian Foundation's five-session course "Growing A Healing Ministry". This will be available to any interested churches in the Diocese.
Guild of Health & St. Raphael
The Guild of Health & St. Raphael is an ecumenical, inclusive and prayerful group working locally and nationally in the Christian healing ministry. Taking theology seriously, we reach out to both policy makers and those on the ground to spread the Good News about healing and holistic living. Working with key partners and through publications and events, we aim to be the premier academic point of contact for science, religion and healing, while also providing resources for education and parish based healing ministry. As an organisation we aim to: bring together Christians, including medical health care professionals and ministers of religion, in pursuit of holistic health in mind, body and spirit; enable members to study the interaction between physical, mental and spiritual factors in well-being through conferences, publications and other educational endeavours; sustain and strengthen by prayer and sacrament people who are sick or suffering in any way, and all those who minister to them; help everyone realise that as members of Christ's family we have access to an abundance of life and are called to share this Good news with the world. We support local healing groups, publish academic journals and magazines, organise local and national events and partner with key organisations and support agencies.

We have helped church communities all around Britain, and further afield, to find confidence and understanding for the emotionally wounded. Order of St Luke the Physician
MINISTRY | TRAINING
Order of St Luke the Physician was founded in America in 1930 in response to a growing concern that the Christian Church no longer included the ministry of healing as a normal part of their ministry. Revd Dr. Gaynor Banks and his wife, Ethel, shared a vision to develop the Christian Healing Ministry within the churches and to draw together all the Christian healing organisations under the umbrella of a world healing fellowship. So the Fellowship of St Luke the Physician was born. By 1947 the fellowship had matured into what we now know as The International Order of St Luke the Physician. It was introduced into England in 1950 and became a registered charity in 2011. We are an international and ecumenical Christian Healing Order, dedicated to promoting the Christian healing ministry within our churches. We aim to help churches set up healing ministry teams and offer training days, courses and healing services. Our members live by a simple Rule of Life and meet in local ‘Chapters’ which welcome visitors seeking to know more about the Christian Healing Ministry and explore membership of the Order. We also have an online Chapter. Members receive our quarterly magazine, 'Healing Ways'.
Parish Nursing UK
Parish Nursing is part of an international movement called Faith Community Nursing, which began in 1986 through the work of a hospital chaplain, Granger Westberg, and there are around 30,000 Faith Community nurses or Parish nurses around the world in more than 30 countries.
There are now around 100 part-time Parish nurses in the UK. These are currently registered Christian nurses, with additional training, employed or appointed by churches and Christian organisations, providing whole person health and wellness advice in local communities with an intentional focus on spiritual care. They can work with any age-group or target group, in health education, prevention and early detection of disease, short or long-term support for those with health concerns or family care responsibilities, and end of life care. Prayer is part of the offer if the person so desires.
